On First Principles is the first large Christian theology. Against Celsus answers a philosopher’s attack. His homilies and commentaries taught the church to read Scripture on more than one level.

Teacher at Alexandria
Origen (c. 185–c. 254) succeeded Clement as the great teacher of Alexandria, and later taught in Caesarea.
